How it works
- Press “Start recording” and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Speak naturally for up to 30 seconds. Recording stops automatically at 30 seconds, or press Stop.
- Get your text a few seconds later. Copy it into an email, a document, a chat or your notes.
The transcription is done by AI speech recognition, which handles normal speaking speed, punctuation and many languages. The language is detected automatically, so you don't need to choose it.
What you can use it for
- Quick notes and ideas when typing on your phone is too slow.
- Drafting messages and emails – speak first, polish later.
- Journaling – say how your day went instead of writing it. See What is voice journaling?
- Accessibility – for people who find typing difficult or tiring.
Tips for the most accurate transcript
- Use a quiet room; background music and other voices reduce accuracy.
- Keep your phone or microphone 10–20 cm from your mouth.
- Speak at your normal pace – you don't need to speak slowly or robotically.
- Say punctuation-heavy content (lists, numbers, names) clearly. Unusual names may still need a quick fix.
Why speaking is faster than typing
In a Stanford lab study, speech input on a phone was about three times faster than typing on the phone's keyboard (153 vs. 52 words per minute). That's why voice is so useful for capturing thoughts quickly. More in Is speaking faster than typing?
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. You can transcribe up to 3 recordings of 30 seconds per day without an account and without paying.
Do I need to sign up?
No. You only need a free account if you want to save your recordings, record longer entries, and export them to PDF or Jira. The free Voicelore plan includes 3 recordings a week.
Which languages are supported?
The speech recognition works with many languages, including English, Spanish, German, French, Hindi and Slovak, and detects the language automatically. Accuracy is best in widely spoken languages and with clear audio.
Is my recording stored?
No. Your recording is sent to our speech-recognition provider to create the transcript and is then deleted. Voicelore doesn't keep trial recordings or their transcripts. Details in our privacy policy.
Can I transcribe an existing audio file?
Yes – use the free Audio to Text converter to upload an MP3, M4A, WAV or other audio file.
